Patrons are responsible for the books they check out from the JIS libraries. If a book is lost, damaged, or stolen, the student will be responsible for paying the full replacement cost of the book. The total replacement charge includes the cost of the material as assessed by the library (item price) as well as 50 percent of the item’s price library acquisition fee (to cover shipping/processing/cataloging). Unfortunately, we do not offer the option to purchase a replacement book for a lost or damaged book.
If a book page accidentally rips, please do not attempt to repair it at home. We use special book tape and glue, which resist heat and will not discolor. Advise a library team member of the damage, and we will attempt to repair it. A replacement charge will be assessed if the book cannot be repaired.
We would always rather have the book back, so if you find the lost book or it is located and in good condition, we will refund the lost book fee.
If the patron wishes to appeal replacement charges and explain extraordinary circumstances that justify why charges should be waived, they may submit an appeal in writing to the librarian within seven days of billing.
