JIS Libraries: Policy & Documentation

When JIS Library patrons are unable to return library materials, or materials were damaged by negligence, the libraries declare the materials “Lost” and begin replacement procedures.  The librarian will attempt to quickly replace each lost item with an exact copy, an updated edition, or a similar title.  The total replacement charges include the cost of the material as assessed by the library (item price) as well as 50% of the item’s price library acquisition fee.  If a lost item is returned after a replacement copy has been ordered, the assessed replacement cost will be refunded. The associated overdue fines and processing charges will not be refunded.  If the patron wishes to appeal replacement charges and explain extraordinary circumstances that justify why charges should be waived, they may submit an appeal in writing to the librarian within 7 days of billing.
