Through non-violent civil disobedience Mahatma Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom not only in India but also across the world. Gandhi organised set about organising peasants, farmers, and the general public to protest against excessive land-tax and discrimination. He was jailed multiple times by the British empire for his fight against British occupation.
