Organisms you might see: manta rays, Komodo dragons

Nusa Lembongan - Coastal Environments

Organisms you might see: mangroves and organisms in and out of the water that make them their home; coral reefs, fish

Sumatra - Highland Adventure

Organisms you might see: Rafelesia (a very large parasitic plant)

Bali - Crest to Coast

Organisms you might see: mangroves, coral

Kalimantan - Competing Communities

Organisms you might see: mangroves, oil palms, orangutan, sun bears

Riau - Indigenous Communities

Organisms you might see at Telunas (*indicates Ms. Dissa has seen them on past trips): *mangroves (at least 10 different species), *crabs (purple climbing crabs, moon crabs, soldier crabs, fiddler crabs), *shrimp, pythons, *Monitor lizards, mousedeer, pangolin (endangered), wild boar, cream colored giant squirrel (near threatened species), carpet anenome, monkeys (*long tailed macaque, *silvery lutung), birds (*collared kingfisher, *stork-billed kingfisher, *Pacific swallow, *Brahminy kite)

Bunaken - Island Diversity

Organisms you might see: sea turtles, clownfish, dugong, corals, spinner dolphins, bottle-nosed porpoise, pilot whales, orcas, sperm whale

Lembongan - Marine Environments

Sulawesi - Endangered Species

Organisms you might see: 

  • In the marine environment: sea cucumber, some coral, clown fish, star fish, sea turtles (nests and eggs), sand crabs
  • During your freshwater survey in a small stream: Lots of bugs and other organisms 
  • Also possible: macaque, tarsier, millipedes, owls, some domesticated animals (dogs, chickens, etc)
  • At the endangered species site: sun bear, otter, orangutan, babirusa, assorted birds from the archipelago, snakes, Sulawesi deer, pangolin
